Solar Storm - 22. January 2012

source: www.nasa.gov
credit: NASA/SDO

This incredible image is a closeup of the January 22, 2012, M8.7 class solar flare, of which the coronal mass ejection (CME) collided with Earth's magnetic field on January 24, 2012.

Solar radiation storms can affect satellite operations and short wave radio propagation, but apparently cannot harm humans on Earth. Some airlines adjusted selected routes due to the chance of impact of the radiation on communication equipment.

David McCabe's shot of Andy Warhol and Salvador Dalí

source: guardian.co.uk

Photographer David McCabe had the privilege of documenting Andy Warhol´s daily life for a while. In that context, in the winter of 1964-1965, this particular image was created.

David about the experience:
´ It was pure theatre. Dalí was making Andy so nervous – which was unusual: it was usually him who made other people tongue-tied – that he was guzzling back wine. I'd never even seen him drink before. He kept looking as if he was ready to bolt for the door, and then finally he said: "David, we've gotta go." `

Friday, February 3, 2012, 12:00–4:00 PM

Originally founded by a collective of artists, musicians, and philosophers, the NSK State in Time came into being in 1992 shortly after Slovenia’s independence from the Yugoslav Federation. Its declaration of existence was accompanied by the issuing of passports at various temporary embassies, which operated alongside NSK exhibitions and events. Led by the Slovenian artists’ collective IRWIN, Print Studio will host the NSK Passport Office, New York for three days and issue a limited number of passports. A concurrent series of presentations, discussions, screenings and a culminating NSK State Citizens’ Rendezvous offers a forum to engage the public with ideas central to the NSK State and what it means to be a citizen of this non-territorial entity. For more information about the program schedule and updates, please visit MoMA.org/learn .

A limited number of passports will be printed during IRWIN’s NSK Passport Office, New York.

Admission to the NSK Passport Office New York is free. Passports will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

FREE CULTURE INCUBATOR #12 FINALE

Nadia El-Imam
, Kreativdirektorin von Edgeryders, Council of Europe, Social Cohesion Research & Early Warning Division.

"Houston, we have a problem!" (Yugoslavian space program)

This documentary claims to reveal the secret yugoslav space program which fueled the technological advancements of NASA with the help of Herman Potočnik´s unpublished diaries. It presents the supposed hidden (third) side of the Space Race during the Cold War and how Marshal Josip Broz Tito negotiated lucrative deals with the United States and built the biggest underground space centre in Europe, making the Apollo missions and landing on the moon a reality.
